Editorial guidelines

Last updated: {{LAST_UPDATED_DATE}}

Meow Tales aims to be a friendly, trustworthy publication for cat lovers. Our editorial guidelines describe how we research, write and review content.

Our standards

  • Accuracy. We base articles on reputable sources. We do not invent facts, ratings or stories.
  • Originality. We write in our own words. We do not copy from other publishers.
  • Honest sourcing. Where a story relies on external reporting, we name and link the original source.
  • No exaggerated claims. Cats are individuals. We avoid sweeping generalisations and miracle cures.
  • Health-content care. Health articles include a clear veterinary disclaimer and encourage readers to consult a qualified vet.

How an article is produced

  1. A topic is selected from our editorial roadmap or in response to news.
  2. The writer gathers sources, including reputable veterinary, welfare and feline-research organisations.
  3. A draft is written following our article template.
  4. An editor checks claims, fact-checks figures and reviews headings, alt text and links.
  5. For health content, a second pass focuses specifically on accuracy and the wording of medical claims.
  6. The article is published and dated. Significant later updates are noted with an “Updated” date.

Cat breed pages

Breed pages are built on structured data and reviewed by our editorial team before they are published or indexed. Pages still under review carry a “needs review” status and are excluded from search engines and sitemaps.

News

For news we attribute original reporting clearly, include date and source links, and avoid sensational headlines. Where information is unconfirmed, we say so.

Sources we rely on

Examples of the sources we draw on include veterinary associations, animal welfare charities, peer-reviewed feline research and recognised cat-fancier organisations. Where we quote or paraphrase, we credit the source.

Editorial independence and advertising

Editorial decisions are independent of advertising. Advertisers cannot purchase coverage or influence the content of articles. See our advertising disclosure and affiliate disclosure.
