Shy Tuxedo Cat Finds a Safe Place to Raise Her Four Kittens and Begins to Trust Again
A timid tuxedo cat named Raea found the safe foster home she needed just before giving birth to four healthy kittens.
A timid tuxedo cat named Raea was given the fresh start she desperately needed when a foster volunteer opened her home just in time for the expectant mother to welcome her kittens.
Raea had been among a group of 11 cats in need of safe placements. Ferdinand and Friends Animal Rescue Network stepped in to help the animals and contacted Mellissa, the founder of Tiny but Mighty Kitten Rescue, to ask whether she had room for the pregnant cat.
Mellissa agreed immediately. Raea reminded her of Leia, a former foster kitten who had since become a permanent member of her family.

When Raea first arrived, she was understandably cautious. She remained inside her carrier for a while, taking her time before venturing into the unfamiliar room. After being moved several times, the young cat finally had a quiet place where she could settle down without further disruption.

A safe room and a favourite window spot
Little by little, Raea began to explore her surroundings. She inspected the kitten room, found the litter tray and soon discovered a favourite resting place on the window sill.
Mellissa gave her space while gradually building her confidence. Within a few days, Raea appeared noticeably more relaxed and comfortable in her temporary home.

Her timing could not have been better. Just four days after arriving, Raea went into labour.
In the warmth and safety of the foster room, she gave birth to four healthy kittens. With a soft bed, plenty of food and a caring foster mum nearby, Raea was finally able to focus entirely on her babies.

A devoted mum to four tiny kittens
From the beginning, Raea proved to be an attentive and loving mother. She rarely wanted to leave the kittens, even for a meal, so Mellissa brought food directly to her bed.
Whenever one of the kittens made a sound, Raea quickly checked that everything was all right. Despite her initial shyness around people, she allowed Mellissa to handle the kittens for weigh-ins and to move them gently while their bedding was being changed.

As the kittens slept, Raea occasionally enjoyed some quiet moments of her own. She would knead her blankets, purr contentedly and seek out affection from her foster mum.

She also began to discover the fun of being a playful cat again. Cardboard scratchers, track toys and loose catnip gradually caught her attention as she became increasingly confident in her surroundings.

The kittens begin their next adventure
As the kittens grew stronger, their eyes opened, their ears unfolded and their wobbly steps became more adventurous. The family was moved into a larger nursery where the little ones could safely practise walking, exploring and playing.

Raea kept a watchful eye on her four kittens as they tested their growing independence. She was always nearby, making sure they did not get into too much mischief.

Her own transformation was just as heartwarming. Although it took time for Raea to feel secure around people, she eventually allowed Mellissa to pick her up. Once in her arms, the petite tuxedo cat relaxed completely and revealed just how affectionate she could be.
Beneath her fluffy coat, Mellissa realised that Raea was much smaller than she first appeared.

A brighter future for the whole family
When the kittens are old enough, Raea and her four babies will be spayed or neutered before they begin the search for permanent homes.
Until then, the kittens still have plenty of growing, learning and playing ahead of them.

After everything she has experienced, Raea can finally enjoy the simple comforts every cat deserves: a safe place to rest, regular meals and the freedom to rediscover her playful side.
Her days of uncertainty are behind her. Now, she can spend her time caring for her kittens while receiving the kindness and security she had been missing.
